The 1080 has always been New Balance's big comfortable cruiser, and the v14 keeps the formula: a deep slab of Fresh Foam X that's soft on landing but doesn't sink so far that you feel stuck. A gentle rocker moves you through each stride without any fuss.
It's a do-most-things shoe for runners who like their miles plush. Long runs, easy days and the odd steady effort all suit it. It's lighter and more agile than the Bondi 9 or the Glycerin Max, though it isn't as bouncy as the Superblast 2.
The fit is roomy and comfortable, with a soft upper and a generous toe box. New Balance's wide-fit options make it an easy recommendation for broader feet.
“Max cushion that still feels like running, not wading.”
