The Race 2 is Suunto's big, tough training watch: steel or titanium case, sapphire lens, AMOLED screen and a battery that runs for weeks. It feels more like a dive watch than a running gadget.
It's for runners and trail types who want maps and long battery without Fenix money. Against the Fenix 8 it costs less than half and gets close on battery; against the Forerunner 970 it's heavier and the training analysis is less detailed.
Dual-band GPS is accurate, offline topo maps are clear on the large screen, and the digital crown makes scrolling through them easy. The Suunto app keeps things simple, if a little short on depth.
“Built like a dive watch, priced like a sensible one.”
