The verdict

Mind 001 is Nike's pregame mule, built on research from its Mind Science lab. Under the footbed are 22 nodes that move up and down independently, so each step presses different points of the sole. Nike says this is scientifically shown to activate the sensory areas of the brain, and pitches it as a way to get your head in the game before training or a race.

Whether it focuses your mind is hard to prove. What you can feel is a lively, textured footbed that is more interesting than a flat slide and slightly firmer than the soft Oofos and Hoka options on this shelf.

The closed-toe mule shape makes it more wearable than a slide in cold weather and at the start line. Treat it as a warm-up and travel shoe with a bit of science behind it rather than a pure post-run recovery tool.

“Half recovery slide, half neuroscience experiment. Your feet will notice.”
