Adios Pro 4 vs Metaspeed Sky Tokyo: Two $250 Super Shoes, Two Different Rides

Same price, same stack limit, very different feel. Adidas gives you a safer landing, ASICS gives you less weight.

At around $250, these are two of the cheapest top-tier super shoes on the market, and both will make you faster. The choice comes down to weight against security.

The Metaspeed Sky Tokyo is the lighter shoe by a distance, at about 170 g against roughly 215 g for the Adios Pro 4. Its flat carbon plate sits close to the foot for a direct, springy toe-off, and independent testing gives it slightly better energy return.

The Adios Pro 4 uses EnergyRods instead of a plate, inside Lightstrike Pro foam, with a strong rocker. It's a little firmer and gives you more structure, especially if you land on your heel. Testers describe it as cushier and more secure at heel strike, though less agile than the ASICS.

Drop is close: 5 mm for the Metaspeed, 6 mm for the Adios Pro. Neither will feel strange if you're used to modern racers.

Our verdict: if you have a long, efficient stride and land on your midfoot or forefoot, the Metaspeed Sky Tokyo is the faster, lighter shoe. If you heel strike, tire into a heavier landing late in a race, or simply want more security underfoot, take the Adios Pro 4.
